Activity Book

Learn about this beautiful celebration and its cultural significance with professionally created scenes from the epic Ramayana.  Read the simplified story about Ram and Sita, colour in the magnificent scenes, and complete the related word search activities.

This book was originally created as my own personal teaching resource for my students in England and South Africa to learn about, and participate in the Diwali celebrations in the classroom. Over time, the more I got involved in cultural awareness initiatives, the more I became aware of the lack of educational resources with regard to Diwali. The demand for such resources is growing as more people from various other cultures and backgrounds are curious to learn and participate.

Reviews:

This book is a gem – a mixture of story and activity book, full of clear explanation about when, how and why Diwali is celebrated. The line drawing illustrations that accompany the simple retelling of the legend Ramayana allow children to really engage while they color the story. Kamshi has produced a wonderful resource for teachers and families.                                                            Dr. Rosemary Pitzer

Beautiful, accessible, insightful, and fun: Diwali: A Reason to Celebrate, by Kamshi Kanavathy provides families and young people with wise words and the opportunity to learn, through sharing and through art.                                                                                                                                                Renee Sarojini Saklikar
